Our Approach
At Fit AS, we are proud to be a family-friendly gym and aim to support parents in accessing fitness.
At the same time, we operate in a working gym environment with inherent risks, including weights, equipment, and high-intensity activity. Safety for all members—adults and children—is our priority.
This policy sets out how children may attend safely.
Children in the Gym
Babies (Non-Mobile Infants)
Babies are welcome during sessions under the following conditions:
- Must remain in a pram or car seat at all times
- Must be positioned safely away from equipment and walkways
- Must remain under the parent’s supervision at all times
Toddlers & Young Children (Mobile)
We allow toddlers and young children to attend during supervised sessions only, provided:
- They remain under close supervision at all times (within sight and immediate control)
- They stay near their parent or within a designated safe space
- They do not run freely around the gym
- They do not enter training areas or approach equipment
- They do not use or touch gym equipment
Open Gym Sessions
To maintain a safe environment, children may only attend during supervised sessions.
Children are not permitted during open gym periods.
During Classes & Personal Training
- Children must not interfere with sessions or other members
- Coaches must be able to safely deliver the session at all times
- If safety is affected, you may be asked to step out or reposition your child
Our coaches have full authority to pause or stop a session if required.
Your Responsibility as a Parent/Guardian
By bringing a child into the gym, you agree that:
- You are fully responsible for your child at all times
- The gym is not a childcare facility
- You will maintain appropriate supervision at all times
- You will follow all staff instructions immediately
- You accept the inherent risks of a gym environment
When We May Ask You to Leave the Training Area
For safety reasons, our team may ask you to leave or reposition your child if:
- Your child enters unsafe areas (e.g. near weights or equipment)
- Adequate supervision is not being maintained
- Your child’s behaviour creates a risk to themselves or others
- A session cannot be safely delivered
Children’s Classes
We offer dedicated children’s classes which provide:
- Structured, age-appropriate sessions
- A safe and supervised environment
- Coaching tailored specifically for children
These are the recommended option for younger participants.
Health & Safety
This policy is supported by our internal risk assessments and procedures, in line with guidance from the Health and Safety Executive.
Final Note
We love having families as part of our community and aim to make this work for everyone—safely, respectfully, and responsibly.
Thank you for helping us maintain a safe environment for all.
