LONE TRAINING / UNSUPERVISED GYM USE POLICY

1. PURPOSE & SCOPE

This policy applies when an authorised member is permitted to train at Fit AS Gym Ltd without a staff member or instructor physically present in the gym.

Unsupervised access is a privilege subject to compliance with this policy. Remote access control and CCTV reduce some risks but do not provide the same protection as an on-site member of staff.

2. KEY RISKS OF TRAINING ALONE

· Serious injury or medical emergency with delayed discovery or assistance.

· Entrapment/crush injury from free weights or resistance machines.

· Attempting lifts that would normally require a spotter.

· Falls, trips or loss of consciousness with nobody nearby to help.

· Unauthorised people entering through tailgating or a member operating the door for them.

· Fire, electrical or security incidents without on-site staff.

· Assuming CCTV is being watched live when it may not be continuously monitored.

3. ELIGIBILITY & MEMBER RESPONSIBILITY

· Only members specifically authorised by Fit AS may use the gym during unsupervised periods.

· Members must be confident and competent in the equipment they use and must follow any induction/instructions provided.

· A member who feels unwell, dizzy, faint, unusually breathless or otherwise unsafe should not train alone.

· Members are responsible for choosing loads and exercises suitable for safe solo training.

· Members should keep a charged mobile phone accessible while training alone.

4. ACCESS - NO GUESTS, NO TAILGATING

Members must not allow any other person into the gym during unsupervised access unless that person has been separately authorised by Fit AS.

· Do not hold an access door open for another person.

· Do not let another person follow you through the door.

· Do not use the door unlock system to admit a friend, family member, client or another member.

· If someone asks you to let them in, do not do so. Fit AS management will verify and manage access remotely through the HIK Connect/CCTV system.

· Report suspicious access attempts to management.

5. SAFE SOLO USE OF WEIGHTS & EQUIPMENT

· Do not attempt a lift or exercise where a failed repetition could trap, pin or crush you and there is no safe means of self-release.

· Do not perform maximal or near-maximal attempts when alone.

· Use squat-rack safety bars/arms correctly where provided and set them to a suitable height before lifting.

· Do not bench press alone in a set-up that could trap the bar on the chest/neck if the lift is failed. Use an appropriate safety system or choose an alternative exercise.

· Use machine safety pins/stops correctly and do not bypass guards or safety devices.

· Do not use damaged equipment. Stop using it, make the area safe where possible and report the fault.

· Return dumbbells, plates, ropes, sleds and other equipment so that walkways remain clear.

6. EMERGENCY PROCEDURE

1. If you can do so, stop the activity and move to a safe position.

2. For serious injury, chest pain, breathing difficulty, collapse, suspected major fracture, uncontrolled bleeding or other life-threatening emergency, call 999 immediately.

3. Use a panic button once the system has been installed and commissioned if doing so will help summon assistance. Do not delay a 999 call where emergency services are needed.

4. The first-aid box is located in the store room.

5. The nearest known defibrillator is at Tesco Express on Woodford Road, Bramhall. Because this is off site, it must not be relied upon as immediate on-site assistance during lone training.

6. If you are able, contact Alexandria Walker or Stacey Cummings after emergency services have been contacted or for a non-emergency problem.

7. PANIC BUTTONS

Panic buttons are due to be installed. Until they are installed, commissioned and brought into use, members must not assume a panic alarm is available and should keep a charged phone accessible.

Once active, instructions for use will be communicated to authorised unsupervised members. Panic buttons are an additional safeguard and not a substitute for calling 999.

8. CCTV & REMOTE MONITORING

CCTV is installed in the following areas:

· One camera in the studio.

· Two cameras in the main gym.

· One camera at the top of the stairs.

· One camera at the entrance.

Fit AS can use remote CCTV and access control to support security and manage entry. CCTV may not be continuously viewed in real time and is not a substitute for an on-site spotter, first aider or staff member.

9. FIRE, SECURITY & PREMISES SAFETY

· Keep fire routes and the rear fire exit clear at all times.

· Do not prop or wedge fire doors open.

· Do not interfere with locks, CCTV, door-entry equipment, alarms or other safety/security systems.

· If there is a fire alarm or suspected fire, leave by the nearest safe exit and call 999. Do not remain to collect belongings.

· If a suspicious or threatening person is outside or attempting access, do not confront or admit them. Move to a safe location and contact management or police as appropriate.

10. CHILDREN & OTHER PERSONS

Children must never be allowed onto the gym floor contrary to the Fit AS Children's Safety & Attendance Policy. Any child attendance during an unsupervised period is subject to any additional restriction imposed by management. No unauthorised guest or visitor may be brought into the premises.

11. BREACHES OF POLICY

Fit AS may suspend or withdraw unsupervised access where a member breaches this policy, admits another person, misuses access controls, behaves unsafely or creates a material risk to themselves or others.

12. INCIDENTS & REVIEW

· All accidents, panic activations, security incidents, equipment failures and significant near misses during unsupervised use must be reported to management.

· CCTV or access records may be reviewed following an incident in accordance with Fit AS privacy and data-protection procedures.

· This policy will be reviewed at least annually and after any significant incident or change to the access system.
